New Apple Health in iOS 27.2: AI Features and Comparison with Google

The new Apple Health in iOS 27.2 has arrived in developer beta and completely redesigns the health app. A reviewer who tested it with Apple Watch Ultra 3 stated: "I am convinced this is what Google Health should have been from the start."

Which Devices Support the New Apple Health

The app requires iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or newer. Older iPhones will remain on the existing version. Google Health works on devices running Android 11 or iOS 16.4 and newer.

New Apple Health: Insights, Longevity, and VO2 max

The app opens on the Insights tab with Activity Ring data. The Longevity tab estimates health age from Apple Watch fitness data. A new addition is the manual VO2 max test, the first in Apple Health history. Google Health offers nothing similar.

Readiness Score and Health Sensing System

Readiness evaluates preparedness on a scale of 0 to 10 with four recommendations: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It. Google Health uses a scale of 1 to 100. The feature requires Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4 and the Health Sensing System with new heart rate sensors and the S11 chip. The pulse is measured every five seconds. The reviewer's $799 Ultra 3 does not support it: "Am I supposed to spend $800 every year on a new Apple Watch?"

Apple Health versus Google Health

Apple Intelligence provides short AI summaries in Insights without giving advice. Google Health Coach delivers extensive answers with a warning that they may contain errors. The reviewer tested the $99 Fitbit Air and the $799 Apple Watch Ultra 3. According to them: "There are things AI shouldn't guess about, and your health is one of them."

Changes in Apple Fitness+

Apple Fitness+ has implemented reductions affecting employees working on guided workouts. According to Gizmodo and NewsBytes, this is related to the integration of Fitness+ into the new Health app. Apple has redesigned the Mulberry AI coach plan, and according to Gizmodo, Eddy Cue wants "broader changes in the health strategy."
