Google announced on September 4, 2026, the integration of Google Photos with the Gemini Spark assistant. The AI can now handle multi-step tasks in your photo library based on a text prompt: it can search, edit, organize, and share images. This was reported by Android Authority, Mashable, and PetaPixel.
What the Gemini Spark Integration with Google Photos Can Do
According to Android Authority, the assistant can handle multi-step scenarios: manage, edit, and enhance photos, and share them with loved ones with a single prompt. It can also read text from images, summarize an event, or create a visual story. Mashable adds more capabilities:
- Search for images by theme, location, date, or event
- Remove duplicates from selected photos
- Create an album based on a prompt, such as the best shots from a specific celebration or event
- Automatic monthly albums with selected moments
Recurring tasks are a special feature. Android Authority notes that Spark can go through your library every weekend, find the best photos of your kids or pets, add them to a shared album, and send them to your family. After that, it does this automatically, so there's no need to search or send anything manually.
Where the Feature Is Available and How to Enable It
The integration is currently available only in the United States, for users aged 18 and older with a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription. Google is rolling it out gradually, so it may take a while for the option to appear. You can enable it in Gemini Spark under connected apps, where you just need to activate Google Photos, according to Mashable.
Shimrit Ben-Yair shared the news on Twitter on September 3, a day before the official announcement. "I've always dreamed of a powerful agent that would help me get the most out of my 143,206 photos and videos. And that day has come," she wrote.
