The Wide HUAWEI Pura X View Phone Makes One-Handed Operation Easier

Wide phones struggle with one-handed operation, but the HUAWEI Pura X View has figured it out. Reviewer Vincent Zhong published a video on YouTube showing that the phone automatically detects whether you are holding it in your left or right hand and adjusts the elements on the screen accordingly.

How Smart Control Works

The phone can shift the keyboard to the left or right depending on which hand you are typing with. Similarly, the accept and reject call buttons adapt by moving to the edge where they are within your reach. Even some music player controls change sides based on the detected hand.

It is not yet clear exactly how HUAWEI detects which hand you are using. Perhaps the software detects palm contact on the left or right side of the display. The reviewer also noticed that pages in e-books can be turned using the power button, so detection could work via a finger touch on this button. Another possibility is sensors in the phone's frame, although a software solution would be cheaper.

Why Other Manufacturers Would Benefit Too

Such a feature would also be useful in other wide phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 or the upcoming iPhone Ultra, which feature wide cover displays. It would also come in handy on the large inner screens of foldable phones. It shows that HUAWEI has not stopped innovating despite the US trade embargo.

However, the Pura X View is not only interesting for its controls. The phone can use artificial intelligence to transform static images in certain e-books into short videos. The previews do not look great yet, but it is an interesting idea. The phone also features a 7,000 mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging and a large 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and an RYYB layout. Further specifications are not yet known, nor are pricing and availability.
