What's new with Gemini?
As announced at I/O 2026, the Gemini app for Android now integrates the Google Play Store. This new "connected app" allows you to conversationally browse the Play Store and search for Android apps and games.
How does it work?
Simply enter a query, such as: "What are some meditation apps?", "Recommend a good map app for traveling abroad", or "Find a productive meal planning app." Gemini will display a card with apps, ratings, and download counts. Tapping on an app opens its page with the option to install.
In-app purchases and digital gift cards
The integration also allows you to use Gemini to search for and purchase in-app items, subscriptions, or digital gift cards. You can enter, for example, "Buy [item] for [game]" or "Show in-app purchases for [app name]." Google notes that Gemini may only recommend items from apps installed on your device and that not all apps support this feature.
Setup and availability
To set up the connection to the Play Store, simply enter one of the above queries. Gemini will guide you through the connection. This feature is rolling out gradually and has not yet appeared on tested devices.
