Xbox emulator for Android HakuX: new version significantly faster

The Xbox emulator for Android HakuX received versions v1.0.0 and v1.1.0. According to Android Authority, this is a major speedup that makes it possible to play games from the original Xbox even on cheaper Android devices. The developer published both versions on GitHub, Android Authority wrote about it on October 26, 2026.

Version v1.0.0 no longer builds on the Xemu processor technology. Instead, it uses the FEX tool, which translates x86 processor instructions into Arm. The developer also claims that the Xbox core is implemented natively. HakuX supports custom Turnip graphics drivers for devices with Snapdragon.

What the Xbox emulator for Android HakuX update brought

Version v1.1.0 was released a day after v1.0.0. It adds experimental support for Mali, Xclipse and PowerVR GPUs. It also introduces a compatibility layer for devices with a Vulkan 1.1 driver or older. According to the developer, Mercenaries and Burnout 3 ran without problems on Google Pixel 8.

Halo 2 and other games in practice

The Android Authority author installed the new emulator on a Retroid Pocket G2. Halo 2 ran at full speed of 30 fps. However, he recommends using the Turnip driver, because the system driver shows serious graphical glitches. The game also worked well on the ANBERNIC RG 55G1 with a Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 chip.

Project Gotham Racing 2 was playable on both handheld consoles, somewhat better on the Retroid. The developer stated that Blood Wake, Burnout 3, Fable, MechAssault, Ninja Gaiden Black and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind ran well on the Retroid Pocket 5 at 2x resolution. According to Android Authority, Halo 2 and Jet Set Radio Future support 120 fps mods.

HakuX originated as a fork of the X1 Box application, which appeared in March 2026 and built on the Xemu emulator for PC. Android Authority recalls this in connection with the new versions.
