Android 17 QPR1 Update Brings a Range of Improvements

Android 17 QPR1 started rolling out to Pixels on September 15, 2026. This is the first quarterly improvement following stable Android 17, which was preceded by nine beta versions. Google says Pixels will get the update first, and features may appear on devices from other manufacturers later.

Mishaal Rahman from Google shared the details on Reddit. There are plenty of new features: background blur in the volume panel, power menu, context menu, and app folders; a redesigned media carousel with swipe-to-switch; selection of multiple screen savers; or individual vibration patterns for ringtones.

What does the Android 17 QPR1 update bring?

In multitasking, improvements for large screens have been added: the taskbar shows recently opened apps instead of predicted ones. The Linux terminal allows custom fonts, colors, and keyboard shortcuts. According to 9to5google.com, the media player animation on the lock screen has been improved, and Quick Settings now groups media apps together.

Health Connect can now calculate distance and calories from the pedometer. Notifications for turning on mobile data can be disabled. The keyboard switcher button can be hidden, and a Keyboard tile has been added to Quick Settings.

According to androidpure.com, 24 Pixel models will receive the update, ranging from Pixel 6 to Pixel 11, including both generations of Pixel Fold. Pixel Tablet is missing from the official table. Users in the beta program will receive a small update to the stable build. Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are nearing the end of their support.

Google stated on the support forum: "Supported Pixel devices will receive these software updates starting today. The rollout of these features will continue over the coming weeks in phases, depending on carrier and device."

The next quarterly Android 17 update is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
