On August 14, 2026, Google released the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 update for Pixel series devices. The new system version brings a series of user interface improvements and new security mechanisms.
New Features of Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of a layout editor for Quick Settings, which allows users to change the order of elements in this panel. According to heise.de and techcabal.com, an App Lock feature has also been added. This works by long-pressing an app icon to reveal a lock option, after which a fingerprint or PIN code is required for entry. In such cases, the app's widgets, notifications, and shortcuts are also hidden.
Google has expanded the system's theming options. Users now have a slider for hue selection and four basic color styles: Neutral, Soft, Light, and Bold. Blur effects have been applied to more elements, such as the fingerprint button, notifications, and shortcuts on the lock screen.
Improvements for Foldable Devices and Fixes
Owners of foldable phones have received a new feature in the form of an app handle in application windows. This allows for quick switching between full-screen mode and split-screen view. According to hngn.com, an option for managing links in a virtual machine was added to the Terminal app, where the user chooses whether a link opens in the host browser or directly within the virtual machine.
The update also fixes technical bugs. Reports indicate the removal of crashes when opening notifications and Quick Settings, which could cause visual glitches and device restarts. Incorrect battery status warnings in the Device Health and Support tool were also fixed.
Call Forwarding Protection in Android
New security measures target scams that utilize call forwarding. The system now restricts the execution of USSD codes for forwarding (such as code 21) via the TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest() API for standard apps with CALL_PHONE permission. When such an action is attempted, the system returns a USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED error.
If a user enters forwarding codes manually into the system dialer, a confirmation dialog box now appears at the OS level. According to heise.de and hngn.com, these changes do not affect other USSD requests, such as financial transfers or balance checks.
Device Support and Availability
Version CP41.260731.005.A2 is available for Pixel 6a, the Pixel 7 series, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. Other supported devices will receive version CP41.260731.005.B1. Support extends from Pixel 6a through the Pixel 7, 8, 9, 10, Pixel 10a, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, up to the Pixel Tablet.
There is conflicting information regarding support for older models. While heise.de states that version.B1 is available for all devices from Pixel 6 upwards, another source claims that Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are no longer supported and their software support will end before the stable release of QPR2. According to hngn.com, the update was skipped for the Pixel 11 series as these devices are in the pre-order phase. The stable version of QPR2 is expected to be released in December 2026, according to techcabal.com.
